Wolves on Leech Lake

The following is evidence of wolves/coyotes in our area. Pictures are by Ian Stewart.

On Sunday March 23rd about 5:00 pm, two brushwolves/coywolves crossed the lake from approximately the Henze residence area, on the south road, and continued around the point.  30 min later another followed. Later as I took pictures of the paw prints in the snow about 100ft from shore, I couldn't help but feel that I was being watched,  kind of an eerie feeling to say the least. I was sure to leave my snowmobile running just in case.
The coywolves  would be approx 70lbs, and would stand about 25" at its shoulders.

Thanks for posting this.
I followed the tracks backwards today and found that the tracks led down 2 driveways, the Greenwood's and "Fran and Bobs", all from across the rd in the hunt camp forest.
I'm not sure if these were true wolves or a mix of coyote/wolf, they were all a good size.

If 3 wolves have the courage to walk down a driveway at 5 in the afternoon, in broad daylight, then they are already a danger with the fact that they would be that close to humans.
It sounds like the poster was trying to inform rather than harm. Thank you for informing us of their possible location, I will be sure and keep my family clear of that area for some time.
Great pictures!

Thanks for the pictures! Always enjoy wildlife sightings, even though it makes you nervous to see wolves out on the lake. I will be sure to take caution when walking my dog in that area. I really doubt Mr. Stewart would try to harass and harm them, I'd be curious also (as many of you would be) and would also follow them to see if that is where their den might be.

They are just coyotes passing thru, no need for any one to get worried. By the way did you know you can be charged for chasing wild life on a snowmobile? This is wild life that lives here, we are the one's who are intruding. Enjoy them when you see them but.

We saw a couple wolves/coy on the lake 2 sundays ago in the morning while we were up checking on things. They headed into the bay at the boat launch, seems they are not just passing through and seem to be sticking around.
