Turtles Turtles We Love Turtles
The Amaral family of 1006 Lake Shore Rd South had their cottage recently destroyed by falling trees. They are currently in the reconstruction process and are conscious of the noise this makes and the affect it may have on their neighbours. They apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.
The Amarals spotted a turtle last weekend. Here is their report of the incident:
While we were on the dock fishing we had a turtle swim right up to us to get air. This turtle was pretty big. It may have been 2 feet wide and the hands were webbed. It looked like a snapping turtle. I wanted to know if anyone else has seen this and if so is it a snapping turtle. It stayed under my dock the whole time.

The Common Snapping Turtle is very "common" in Leech Lake.
Usually will move on with any disruption in the water.
Glad to hear that the snapper is still around. Haven't seen it (or other, smaller ones) for a few years. Assuming it's the same one, 20 years ago it was about the size of a bushel basket, so guess it's still growing.
The turtle has been spotted off the Silverthorn dock a couple of times this summer!
Did it look something like this?

thats nto a concern i saw a giraffe the other night on my property
They are still around. They are on the watch list. Some of the big guys in our lake are 75+ years old.Unless you are a dead fish hanging off the dock - they don't bother you. They just slip away
