Leech Lake Beavers?
From my observations beavers have been absent from Leech Lake this year and last year. On Saturday a portion of a small tree branch (about a foot long and a 1/2 inch in diameter) washed up to our dock. This piece of branch was clipped off on both ends by sharp teeth and had the bark completely stripped from it. These are tell tale signs of a beavers handiwork.
I wonder if any cottagers out there have seen a beaver or beavers on our lake lately?
I was in contact with a person who has experience as a pest control agent and he stated this could be the work of a porcupine. They are close to the beaver family and do work close to the water at times

I definitely saw a beaver late summer last year. It swam just a foot or two in front of my dock so I am certain it was a beaver. No such luck this year though.
I was surprised last weekend that there is no sign of beaver's on Chubb Creek (bridge before the turn to Pine Lake). This is unusual as there are always beavers in the creek on both side of the road. We have seen fisher's in the cottage area this year and I wonder if they are a predator to the beaver.
The beavers are around!
We have seen two on lorne rd, and also seen 3 swimming past our cottage in the evening heading towards the inlet bay on south side. We have seen this on a few occasions this year, the last being the end of June.
I saw a beaver several times last year and once this year in June swimming along the south side the point.
We have seen a beaver! It swam past our dock and gave us a startle with the slap of its tail. This was on October 09, 2011.
We saw a beaver Monday night Thanksgiving weekend
I definitely love this site.
