Beaver Fever (it's not what you think)

Giardiasis (beaver fever) can be contracted through beaver feces and can cause serious symptoms especially in children.

Here is a website < http://www.cdc.gov/Ncidod/dpd/parasites/giardiasis/default.htm> that gives you idea of what this is all about. My understanding is that Beavers are well known to carry this bacteria, more beavers mean more chance and the higher the nutrient load in the lake will mean the easier it will be for this bacteria to live in our water.

i understand the need to let folks know about the quality of our like, but this just seems like a scare tactic!
beaver, ducks, geese, humans....feces from ANY of these animals has bad things attached to it...
contact with these creatures is a part of living life..esp on a cottage lake...
is best to try to make the world a better place....for everyone, but i disagree with using scare tactics with kids as an example.....

the beaver were here first....for hundreds of years...we need to find a way to live with their impact..if u 'get rid' of the ones we have...others will just move in....there r several methods of working around them..put wire around the trunks of ur trees, the ministry has a method for decreasing the impact of beaver dams, tear the dam down, as was done in the spring....yep...means more work for those that wish to share the shoreline with the natural inhabitants....but...is also part of WHY people love the cottage....the loons, the geese, the heron, the beaver, the deer, etc etc....learn ways of living WITH nature...instead of 'getting rid' of them.....
