As we wend our way to our cottages and spring clean the property and the cottage we should be mindful of the Fire/Burning Bylaw. Forwarned is forearmed
BURNING BY-LAW (Town of Bracebridge)
Between April 1st. and October 31st., the only permitted fires anywhere within the Town (Leech Lake is within the Town) are "campfires for cooking or warmth". The burning of brush and other vegetation (slash) is restricted to the between October 31st. and April 1st. only.Where permitted, slash piles may not be greater than 2 meters in height and diameter and must not be left unattended. Burning of construction material is not allowed at any time. Campfires must be supervised at all times and there must be adequate supply of water or tools to control all fires. If the smoke or sparkling generated by your fire becomes a nuisance, you will be required to extinguish the fire. If a fire ban is imposed for Bracebridge you will not be permitted to have fires of any kind, including campfires.If you have any questions concerns these bylaws, or any others, please contact Bracebridge Law Enforcement Dept. 705-645-5264.

The Burning Bylaw regulates open air burning. Generally speaking, the only permitted fires within the urban area of Bracebridge are campfires for cooking and warmth. These fires are restricted to evening hours only. No daytime campfires are permitted. The burning of leaves and other yard waste is not permitted in the urban area of Bracebridge at any time. In the rural areas of Bracebridge, slash pile fires are also permitted between November 1st and March 31st only. Slash pile fires are set in order to burn yard waste such as branches and leaves. If a fire is creating any discomfort, irritation or nuisance to other residents, it must be extinguished. Any enquiries concerning the Burning Bylaw should be directed to the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers.
how can you burn brush during the winter season that seems redicculous burning only during that time. Snow starts flying in November and stays we get 6 months of winter up here and the snow stays till the end of april that is usually when the ice melts off the lake and the snow finishes melting.
