Election 2006

Who's who....

We received by mail the information on voting in the upcoming elections.
Since we don't live year round on Leech, we were looking for some
recommendations on who to vote for. Naturally we are interested in
candidates who care about roads - and are particularly interested in any
politician who thinks private roads like ours should be taken over by the
municipality.

Thanks
Line Villeneuve.

I know of both the mayor candidates, Don Coates is the guy that no one run against because he was such a sure thing. He stands for the 'good old boys' and a rather chauvinistic approach to politics. Navarro Ralph is a 27 year old Newfoudler and partner in the Concrete Monkey on the main street. He has never run for politics before and is upset that no one would run against Don for the top position. I read a small article on him and he seems genuine to the point that he would like to the right thing but admits there will be a learning curve.

District council, I don't know any of them (and I do read the local paper) except for Barb McMurray which has not been a pleasant experience. Barb comes off as a 'know it all' and 'look at me and what I've done' person. I'm definitely not voting fore her but would like to hear others opinion on the rest.

School board trustee - again I do not either and would be interested in others opinion.

Councilor - Patti Thompson has been in this position for the last term and if you remember was not helpful over the Lorne Rd. concerns and as a matter of fact did not even return calls. Marvin Cohen is a Healy Lake resident (retired from the city) and says he is focused on responsible representation with cost accountability. Guess what he was in the city? I'm going for him over Patti specifically because of the way we were treated last summer. I expect my councilor to be there when I need them and voice an opinion even if it is against what I believe, I can respect that.
